Wisdom and Higher Emotions

Of all the things we learned in school, emotional skills were never taught.  We never got a chance to take a class on dealing with negative emotions, or how to create more love and intimacy in our lives.  You can learn more Personal Growth Ideas here.

There are, however, many different emotional skills we can learn.  Resilience, bouncing back from difficulties, is one simple tool.  But there are others that can have an even greater impact on our lives that can be called Higher Emotional Skills.

One of these skills is Conscious Compassion.  Applying compassion to the people and situations in our lives.  Most people relate to compassion like it is something that has to hit them, like when watching the news about the suffering caused by a hurricane.  But you don’t have to wait for compassion.  You can bring it.  You can generate it.  And it can make a big difference.  You can learn more Wisdom Words here.

That’s one of the main things to learn about Higher Emotions.  We don’t have to sit around waiting for them to strike us.  We can learn to bring them on purpose to our lives.  We can have lots of compassion fill us up every day, if we want.

That’s why it’s called a Higher Emotional Skill.  It is something you can learn to generate.  Let’s say your boss is a pain in the butt.  Grumpy, irritable, unthankful, a jerk at times.  You’ve been complaining about your boss for months.

What if you generated some conscious compassion for your boss?  There are several steps we do not have space to go into here on how to do that, but what if you considered these issues:  what if your boss is going through a divorce?  Or dealing with the death of a loved one?  Or what if they, like many of us, are unhappy and dissatisfied with their life but don’t know what to do about it?

Or maybe it’s just that your boss is suffering right now, in the present.  Clearly, if they are unhappy, irritable, grumpy, they are suffering.  Suffering can trigger compassion.  Instead of complaining bitterly about your boss, what would change if you felt some compassion towards him/her?  With a little conscious compassion, most everything would change for you.  Your anger and bitterness would begin to just drop away, for one thing.

There is a lot more to say about higher emotional skills.  But applying something as powerful as conscious compassion to your life can alter the way life shows up for you.  It can bring you a lot more peace and love in your present experience.  It can transform your world, and is emotional intelligence worth learning. Words Of Wisdom About Your Purpose

What is your life purpose?  Are you, like so many people, so busy that you barely even care?  But ignoring purpose can negatively impact your wellness.  You can get more Wisdom Insights here.

There are only Three Great Games Of Adulthood.  Only 3.  And one of the great games of adulthood is Significance.   Each of us as adults has to figure out how to live a life that matters to ourselves and others.  How to live a life that has meaning.  How to look good to ourselves and others.

You can have a million dollars in the bank.  You can have a loving spouse.  And, if you aren’t winning at the Great Game of Significance, you will often feel empty inside, or that your life is meaningless, or what’s the point.

Then you may drink or do drugs to anesthetize that feeling.  The pain of meaninglessness is Life’s way of saying you need to focus on purpose and worth and living from a different place.  Pain is a teacher.  Pain usually suggests change.  So when we feel the pain of emptiness, like we are just going through the motions, this is nature saying pay attention to richness, pay attention to meaningfulness, pay attention to purpose.  You can get more Words of Wisdom Insights here.

enerally, people are trained to think that life is about money and relationship.  Fame and fortune.  But these are just two of the three great games.  Valuable, but incomplete.  You can’t ignore significance and paying attention to what will give your life meaning.

But the Great Game of Significance cannot be ignored.  If you aren’t winning at it, life will let you know by feelings of boredom, ennui, dissatisfaction, emptiness.  You may question your self-worth.  You may not be happy with toys and activities that used to please you.  This is just Life letting you know you need to pay attention to living a life with purpose.

What, then, is your purpose?  What gives your life a sense of meaning and value?  Well, we each must find our own answers, and thinking about it, spending some time on these questions, can pay off big over the long term.  Two areas to look are a) finding and following your passions in life and b) giving back and being of service.

There’s much more to this issue, but it is worth spending some time on now, rather than waiting for emptiness to knock on your door.   Developing your own sense of significance as you go through life will pay off in greater satisfaction and well being.  You can get more Self Help Wisdom Pointers here.

Wisdom Answers

It is normal for all of us to seek answers to the meaning of life.  Why are we here?  What should we do?  How can we be really happy?  It is natural to look for the answers to life.  You can get more Personal Growth Ideas here.

However, here is a secret that can change everything.  And the secret wisdom is that There Is No Answer!

We run around trying to find the answer to life.  We believe that if we can just find the answer, we’ll be happy and whole and complete.  We’ll be rich and successful and loved.  Let’s say we find an answer, like Buddha’s “grasping is the cause of all suffering.”  Then we work hard to kill desire within ourselves.

It is then human nature to make detachment and non-grasping the answer to all life’s problems.  But it doesn’t work in that way.  They are the not the entire answer to life.  There are just partial answers.  You can learn some more Happiness Tips here.

So some people spend years trying to conquer desire and grasping within themselves.  They are actually full of the desire to kill off desire!  After months or years of this you will likely figure that out.  “Well, trying to desire to kill off desire doesn’t seem to be working, so…”  You drop that and start looking for another, better answer.

In the same way people on the search for self wisdom make love the answer, or compassion, or knowledge, or holiness the answer.  Then they work very hard trying to be holier or more wise or more loving.  Only to find after several months or years that it isn’t working.  Trying to be more of anything isn’t the answer!

Here is a useful wisdom secret.  All answers are only partial truths.  Any answer can not be the whole truth.  So if you feel strongly that being more loving is your answer, good!  Go to work on that for a while.  But just don’t expect love to solve everything.  It won’t!  And don’t burden love with that expectation!

Understand that any answers you find to living a successful and happy life will only be partial and temporary.  What you can do that is powerful is begin to let go of needing an Answer.  Get more comfortable not having answers.  Live more into the question.  Obviously, this is a deep subject, but just this can be a great start.  You can get more Wisdom Insights here.

A Key To Personal Development

Wisdom.   It leads to a better life.  There are so many ways to grow it and develop it.  The more you have of it the better your life and the lives of the people around you go.  So how to develop more wisdom?   What words of wisdom can help you to add wisdom to your life?  You can get more Wisdom Quotes here.

Wisdom isn’t just about more knowledge.  Knowledge without action can just clutter our minds.  Wisdom has to do with insights that get integrated into our behavior.  Essentially, the more understanding and insights we have, the better our choices and the better our results in life.

There are innumerable insights that can add to the quality of your life if you were to act on them.  Taking one insight a week and trying it on can in a short time change your life for better.  A few insights that you turn into action can go a long way.

One powerful insight that can actually change your life forever is the concept of Continual Learning.  Your learning wasn’t done when you graduated from school.  Every day there are lessons life is willing to teach us.  You can learn more Wisdom Ideas here.

If you make continual learning a practice, you will always be adding insights and understanding into your life on a regular basis.  And this is not hard to do at all.

You can pick anything that interests you and learn more about it.  Pottery.  Dancing.  Watch just one educational tv program a week on some topic that interests you.  It could be Dr Phil or the Discovery Channel.  Get an audio book that you can listen to in the car.

The important idea here is to make continual learning a habit in your own life.  Turn it from an idea into a practice.  All that requires is regular actions to prime your own pump, expose yourself to new learning.

And you can let your heart and your interests direct you on the great journey of Continual Learning.  Always wanted to create pottery?  Take a class and see where it leads you in life.  Want to be more assertive?  Get an audio book on it and learn about yourself as you drive your car.  The point is to expose yourself to new insights that can lead to new choices.  Do this regularly and you will lead a more fulfilling life.  Get more Words of Wisdom here.
