Dreams to a lot of people are just some kind of movie that goes on in their heads when they sleep, that they seem to have little or no control over, while some are happy dreams there are other very dark dreams that are scary. It is nice to know though that we can actually achieve dream control and engage is something called lucid dreaming.
Just what is lucid dreaming, exactly? Can anyone gain the ability of dream control? What is there to be gained by lucid dreaming? Read on for a look at dream control and how it can be helpful to you.
What Is Dream Control?
Dream control only means that you have full knowledge of what you are dreaming, and through lucid dreaming, you become able to manipulate what goes on in the dreams. At the same time you are sleeping, you are able to recognize that you are going through a dream, not real events, and you can completely control all the activities being shown to you, even to a finale.
People who have recurring nightmares can find relief by using lucid dreaming this simple, but very powerful technique can help them to stop their nightmares and get the rest they need.
Common Techniques For Inducing Lucid Dreaming
A very successful way to reach lucid dreaming uses binaural audio, with this you listen to 2 different types of frequencies simultaneously, for the purpose of altering the brain waves, to bring on a relaxed stage, and also the rapid eye movement (REM) stage of sleep, which is where the lucid dreaming occurs.
Self-hypnosis and meditation were the methods used to induce lucid dreaming before binaural audio recordings became available on DVD and CD formats. Self hypnosis and meditation both work to achieve lucid dreaming, but they can take a while to master, making them not necessarily the best choice if youd like to start lucid dreaming sooner rather than later.
There are a number of other techniques which have been used by experts to help people achieve dream control. All of these techniques work towards the goal of training the mind to understand that they are dreaming so that they can enter a state of lucid dreaming.
This training will begin, of course while you are wide awake. You need to set a cue for yourself an action which you will perform or a certain thing which you will say that will be your reminder that you are dreaming so that you can begin using dream control.
You may be able to do this by simply telling yourself as you are falling asleep that in your dream, you will do or say something and then you will know that you are dreaming. Once you know that you are dreaming, lucid dreaming has begun.
This method of learning dream control was developed by scientist Dr. Stephen LaBerge and is known as MILD (sort for mnemonic induction of lucid dreams). This technique can let you control the course of events in your dreams you are only limited by your imagination!
A dream diary can also help you to get started with lucid dreaming. Immediately after you wake up, write down each and every detail that you remember from your dreams. After doing this for a while, youll train your mind to remember your dreams; this is the first step to dream control and soon youll start having lucid dreams!
With dream control you can go anywhere, do anything and see anyone that you can imagine. There are no limits to what you can do when you are lucid dreaming.
However, keep in mind that you can have too much of a good thing, even dream control. Experts in the field have said that our dreams can be a way of our subconscious minds trying to tell us something important. Its important to give yourself a few nights off from lucid dreaming now and then, as amazing of an experience as discovering dream control can be.
